Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are coming...

Taking place in the city this summer from 23 July – 2 August.

With the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games taking place in the city this summer (23 July – 2 August), we’re now able to share confirmed dates for how this will affect the three Glasgow Life venues used for competition: Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow International Arena (formerly Emirates Arena), Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Gorbals Leisure Centre Tennis Hall is also being used for Opening and Closing Ceremony rehearsals.

These venues will be hosting events during the Games, so they’ll close for short periods, along with a little extra time before and after for set-up and clear-down. Closure dates will vary depending on the event schedule, and we’ve worked hard to keep any disruption as limited as possible.

You’ll find the confirmed closure period and reopening dates for each venue below. We don’t expect these to change, but if anything does, we’ll keep you updated.

What does this mean for me?

With clear plans now in place, our team have started working to move as many affected activities as possible so you can keep to your routine.

We’re also exploring alternative options to help you stay active during any closure periods and will share these as they are confirmed. Once the final programme is in place, we’ll provide a further update to help you plan ahead.

Thank you for your understanding as the city prepares to welcome athletes from across the Commonwealth for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

How can I keep up to date?

Whilst we don’t anticipate any changes to the dates above, should it be necessary to do so we will be in touch through our normal communication channels.

As well as receiving emails or App notifications from us with important updates, we have created a Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games page on the Glasgow Life website as the single source of information about our venues, detailing all you need to know about the impact of the Games. You can find this here.

How will I benefit from the Games?

Our team at Glasgow Life has been working closely with Glasgow 2026 over the last year to make the necessary preparations for the Games, with Scotstoun Stadium, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, and Tollcross International Swimming Centre all benefiting from significant investment at no cost to the city or our members.

Some of the changes might not be immediately noticeable to you, but they strengthen our facilities for the future and help us bring in additional income. This support allows us to reinvest back into the venues, benefiting our members and the wider community for years to come.

How can I get involved with the Games?

Hosting the Commonwealth Games gives Glasgow residents as well as visitors a great opportunity to get involved and feel a part of things.

There is also limited availability for some of the big medal moments, with the likes of Duncan Scott going for glory in the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, and Eilish McColgan bidding for consecutive 10,000m Games Golds at Scotstoun Stadium.

Grab your tickets here while you can for an unforgettable summer of sport.

Glasgow 2026 Festival

The Glasgow 2026 Festival will bring the colour and vibrancy to surround the UK’s biggest sporting event in 2026.  Taking place across the city between 23 May and 9 August 2026, the Festival is designed to complement the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, bringing the city to life through arts, culture and sport activations and inviting everyone to get involved. All In

Glasgow 2026 has also launched its ‘All In’ campaign a national call to action inviting community groups, schools, sports clubs, cultural and voluntary organisations and businesses to celebrate the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in their own way. It gives people the tools, branding and visibility to create inclusive, locally led activities that bring people together, build excitement and show their support for Scotland’s Games. It’s completely free to join and it’s designed to make sure every community—no matter where they are—can be part of the celebrations. Organisations can find out more and sign up to All In here  – About All In | Glasgow 2026
