Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are coming...
Whilst the delivery of the Games is being privately funded, Glasgow Life is proud to be staging top class international sport competition once again at three of its venues (Scotstoun Stadium, Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Tollcross International Swimming Centre), reaffirming Glasgow’s reputation as a world-leading events destination.
The Scottish Events Campus (SEC) is also staging a number of sports.
How will I benefit from the Games?
Our team at Glasgow Life has been working closely with Glasgow 2026 over the last year to make the necessary preparations for the Games, with Scotstoun Stadium, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, and Tollcross International Swimming Centre all benefiting from significant investment at no cost to the city or our members. Some of the changes might not be immediately noticeable to you, but they strengthen our facilities for the future and help us bring in additional income. This support allows us to reinvest back into the venues, benefiting our members and the wider community for years to come.
What does this mean for me?
As a valued Glasgow Club member, we want to make sure you have clear information about how the Games will affect our three competition venues and what this means for you.
These venues will close for a short time while events are taking place in July and August, with a little extra time needed before and after for set-up and clear-down. The exact dates will vary by venue, depending on the event schedule. We’ll keep closures as limited as possible to minimise any impact.
Our venue teams are also looking at alternative ways for you to stay active during any closure period and will be working hard to relocate as many activities as possible.
To make sure the details we share are accurate, we’ll confirm the specific closure dates once planning with Glasgow 2026 is finalised over the next few weeks.
Whatever dates are agreed, we’ll give you plenty of notice so you can plan your fitness programme in advance.
How can I keep up to date?
As well as receiving emails or App notifications from us with important updates, we have created a Commonwealth Games page on the Glasgow Life website as the single source of information, detailing all you need to know about the impact of the Games on our venues. You can find this here.
How can I get involved with the Games?
Hosting the Commonwealth Games gives Glasgow residents as well as visitors a great opportunity to get involved and feel a part of things.
Whilst thousands of Glasgow residents have applied to be on the volunteer programme at the Games, and more tickets for the Games have gone on sale recently, Glasgow Life is also delighted to be delivering the Glasgow 2026 Festival on behalf of Glasgow 2026 and Commonwealth Sport.
Glasgow 2026 Festival
The Glasgow 2026 Festival will bring the colour and vibrancy to surround the UK’s biggest sporting event in 2026.
Taking place across the city between 23 May and 9 August 2026, the Festival is designed to complement the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, bringing the city to life through arts, culture and sport activations and inviting everyone to get involved.
Developed and delivered with Glasgow Life and made possible thanks to funding from Commonwealth Sport and other key stakeholders including the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and sportscotland, the Glasgow 2026 Festival will feature altogether brilliant creative projects, family-friendly events and community activities, creating opportunities for people to gather, celebrate sporting endeavour and explore the culture, creativity and heritage of communities around the Commonwealth. All In
Glasgow 2026 has also launched its ‘All In’ campaign a national call to action inviting community groups, schools, sports clubs, cultural and voluntary organisations and businesses to celebrate the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in their own way. It gives people the tools, branding and visibility to create inclusive, locally led activities that bring people together, build excitement and show their support for Scotland’s Games. It’s completely free to join and it’s designed to make sure every community—no matter where they are—can be part of the celebrations. Organisations can find out more and sign up to All In here – About All In | Glasgow 2026
