Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Frequently Asked Questions

Introduction

We’re delighted to welcome the Commonwealth Games back to Glasgow. Only a small number of cities in the world have hosted the Games twice, and we’re proud that our Glasgow Club venues are playing an important role in this international event.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the city and for our charity-led services to shine on the world stage.

Games dates: 23 July – 2 August 2026

Although we’re still working with the organisers to finalise the plans, here are some early answers to questions you may have. We’ll continue to update you as more details are confirmed.

We know many of our members will have questions about how the  Commonwealth Games may affect Glasgow Club venues and services.

This page brings together the latest information to help you plan your visits and keep your fitness routine on track.

As plans continue to develop, some details are still being confirmed. We’ll update these FAQs as soon as new information becomes available, so you always have the most up-to-date guidance.

Although we'll get in touch with any important updates, you can also check this page regularly for any updates

Three venues will host events:

  • Tollcross International Swimming Centre – Swimming & Para Swimming
  • Emirates Arena – Track Cycling, Para Track Cycling & Artistic Gymnastics
  • Scotstoun Sports Campus – Athletics & Para Athletics

The three venues will close for a short time while events are taking place, with a little extra time before and after for setting up and clearing down. The exact dates will vary by venue depending on the event schedule. We’ll keep closures as short as possible and share confirmed dates with you as soon as we can.

Your membership continues to give you access to all other Glasgow Club venues across the city, and you can access fitness at home in our app, giving you plenty of ways to keep active. If you’d like help choosing an alternative, our venue team will be happy to help, or you can contact our Customer Experience team at glasgow.club@glasgowlife.org.uk.

You’ll receive updates through:

  • In-app notifications  (Don’t miss out, read our guide on managing notifications)
  • Email updates
  • Signage in venues
  • Glasgow Life and Glasgow Club social media channels
  • Website pages - we have created a special page on the Glasgow Life website as the single source of information, detailing all you need to know about the impact of the Games on our venues as well as other Games related information. You can find this here.

We’re working hard to keep classes running with as little disruption as possible. Many classes will move to nearby venues, and we’ll highlight suitable alternatives if any timetable changes affect you.

You can also work out in the comfort of your own home with our virtual club GlasgowClub+ which you'll find in our app. It’s included with all FitClub and ActivClub membership plans and you can cast videos from our app to your smart TV, laptop or other large screen. You can enjoy:

  • On-demand classes such as Les Mills, yoga, Pilates, Step, LBT and more
  • Targeted workouts including stretching, core and warm-ups

We hope the range of alternative venues and virtual options makes it easy for you to stay active during this period. If travelling isn’t practical for you, you can stop your direct debit instruction to pay Culture & Sport Glasgow at your bank any time after your June payment has been collected and before the next payment date on 7 July.

You’re always welcome to rejoin at a time that suits you, and we’ll be happy to support you when you’re ready to return.

If we need to make any changes, we’ll contact families directly with clear options. Your space will be protected and reinstated as soon as the venue returns to its usual programme.

To make sure you don’t miss any important updates, please let your local coordinator know if you’ve changed your email recently.

Once dates are confirmed, our team will contact you to discuss your booking and any suitable alternatives. We’ll do our very best to accommodate your group in a nearby venue, as we do whenever events take place.

Hosting the Commonwealth Games means our venues are benefiting from privately funded upgrades at no cost to the city or our members. Some of the changes might not be immediately noticeable to you, but they strengthen our facilities for the future and help us bring in extra income. This support allows us to reinvest back into the venues, benefiting our members and the wider community for years to come.

We’re delivering 10 Glasgow 2026 Festival Community Events across the city. These free, family-friendly days are designed for all ages and are a fantastic way to enjoy sport, activity and celebration in the lead-up to the Games.

The first event will take place at Glasgow Club Tollcross on 10 April.

More details will be shared soon, so keep an eye out for updates!
